Biography

Pat Allen is employed by Hewlett-Packard, as the Global Workforce Development Manager for Human Resource professionals. She joined HP in 1989 and has held leadership positions in order fulfillment, sales finance, relocation and education. Her career has also included experiences in accounting, commercial lending and entrepreneurial development.

Pat holds a Masters of Business Administration and Bachelor's in accounting from Florida A & M University . She is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR); a graduate of the Georgia 100 Executive Mentoring Program for Women; and HP's Accelerated Development Program for High Potential Managers.

Since joining the Onyx Chapter of ABWA in 1992, Pat has held the office of Chapter President, Vice President, and Treasurer. She has chaired numerous committees and been honored as the Chapter Woman of the Year, Top Ten and Hall of Famer. Pat has served as Treasurer of the Atlanta Area Council and the 2000 National Convention.

Biography

Janet Allison is a consultant in the technology field with emphasis on accounting systems and business processes. Since 1987 she has worked extensively in the accounting industry in various capacities including, but not limited to the following: co-op franchise accounting, job costing accounting, systems installations, consultation, and training.

In 1997, Janet founded ComputerBuzz, Inc., her own computer consulting business. She continues to promote technology as a tool to businesses and professionals nationwide.

Darlene's objectives include encouraging chapter members to educate themselves through the Business Skills Tuition Reimbursement, as well as attending seminars and workshops at ABWA spring conferences and National conventions. ABWA is a true PASSION of hers and wants to make it yours.

Darlene Andrews , 2003 Top Ten, 2000 General Chairman of the Atlanta National Convention and 1997 District I Vice President is committed to ABWA and its members. She is a strong believer in networking, mentoring and leadership programs in order to raise the standard of all working women to achieve their highest heights.

She brought together the combination of three chapters in Cobb County forming the Spirit of Cobb Charter Chapter. She was also the chairman of the new formation of the Atlanta Downtown Express Network, of which she was the First President, and is currently an advisor to the Board.

Darlene also shows her dedication to the community through volunteering with the YWCA of Cobb County, March of Dimes of Northwest Georgia, and serves on the Board of Directors for SafePath. Darlene is a graduate of the 1999-2000 Leadership Cobb class, a community leadership program.

Pauline Daily holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Management and Expert certification in PowerPoint and Excel from Microsoft. She is a proficient instructor of Microsoft Word and project management fundamentals using Microsoft Project. Through her affiliation with New Horizons Computer Learning Center, she has facilitated training at companies such as ADP, Georgia Tech, Cingular Wireless, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Labor.

Ms Dailey is the current president of the Hidden Hills Chapter of ABWA. A member since 2000, she has held the positions of Hospitality Chair, Treasurer, and Vice President. Other accomplishments include Membership Training and Development Certification from ABWA, chartered a Toastmasters International Club at the Emory University, Goizueta Business School.

Jivonne Gilliam

A Communications graduate of the University of Virginia, Ms. Gilliam, has served as Assistant to the Public Information Officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and has also interned as a newswriter/field producer for a central-Virginia TV news program.

Ms. Gilliam has also worked as a Junior Publicist with NBC-TV in New York City on shows like Today, Meet the Press, and the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. She spent three years developing and managing internal communications, as well as coordinating special events and educational conferences for Special Olympics--Georgia. In addition, she has also served in several communications management roles with major corporations like BellSouth Corporation and MCI WorldCom.

After all those experiences, Ms. Gilliam decided to add "business owner" to her list of accomplishments and open the doors of The Virtual SOHO Solution, Inc., a marketing communications firm specializing in Web site development and graphic design. She designed, developed, and maintains this Web site for the Atlanta Area Council, as well as Web sites for several ABWA Chapters and Express Networks.

Bessie Poole

Bessie R. Poole currently holds dual-membership with the Golden Dome Chapter and Dogwood Primetime. She has been a member of ABWA for seventeen years with perfect attendance. Ms. Poole has held every executive board office with the exception of treasurer and all committee chairmanship. She is the 2003-2004 Past Atlanta Area Council Chairman of ABWA. She held the title of “Woman of the Year for three years -1992, 1996, and 2001, also the 2 nd runner up for Council Woman of the Year 2002 and Top Ten Nominee 2002.

Ms. Poole is currently employed with Georgia Power Company as a Support Specialist I, and has held this position for the last three years. Bessie has enriched her life and the lives of others around her with her warm and giving spirit. She has achieved numerous awards and recognition throughout her community as an outstanding citizen and leader.

Bessie Poole’s leadership capabilities have been demonstrated throughout her company and ABWA. She has just completed the Platinum level of professional development (100 CEU hours) credit in ABWA. She received her certificate on Thursday, October 14, 2004 in Richmond, Virginia at the National Convention.

As leaders we owe it to ourselves and those we lead to lead in the right direction. Leadership requires that we take responsibility for our actions and we must respect others. We must understand that we have a responsibility to nurture the people in our lives, by nurturing others we will grow.

Gwendolyn Jones West

Gwendolyn Jones West, a native of Thomasville, GA, has worn many hats in her 50+ years. The daughter of educators, Mrs. West broke with the family tradition of pursuing a career in education and decided to move in another direction.

With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Spelman College, Ms. West began her first employment as the Transcript Clerk in the Registrar's Office of Spelman College.

Her early employment history also includes: Administrative Assistant to the President of the second oldest minority-owned bank in Georgia, The Carver State Bank in Savannah, Georgia.

Feeling the need to be of greater service to the community, Mrs. West has held positions as:

  • Director of the Voting Rights Project, Georgia Legal Services Program, Atlanta

Mrs. West has also worked with the Southern Regional Council and Voter Education Project of Atlanta, GA. Having traveled extensively across the state of Georgia and the southeast, Mrs. West is most noted for her work with the Voting Rights Project of Georgia Legal Services Program, where she produced audio and visual materials, conducted workshops and seminars on voting.

For the past twenty-one years, Mrs. West has worked in the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit, first as Clerk in the Magistrate Court and later as a Bailiff in Division Three of the State Court of DeKalb County . Currently, Mrs. West is the Civil Calendar Clerk/Case Manager for the Honorable Anne Workman, Judge, Division Ten of the Superior Court of DeKalb County.

A faithful member of the Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Lithonia, GA, Mrs. West is involved in many of the ministries within the church. Among them, Deaconess Ministry, serving as President for two terms (4 years) and Sunday School. As a member of the Welcome Wagon, Mrs. West has served as announcer on the churches weekly radio broadcast (WYZE-AM). She is a former member of the choir, Pastor's Aide, Mission Ministry and Nurses Guild. She is often called upon to facilitate and coordinate special programs and church activities.

In 1984, Mrs. West joined the Snap finger Woods Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She has held several positions within her chapter, serving as President for two (2) terms and was selected as Woman of the Year in 1992. In 2002 and 2003, Mrs. West was nominated by her chapter as a candidate for Top Ten, which is the highest individual recognition a person can receive in ABWA.

Mrs. West served as Chairman of the Atlanta Area Council in 1996-1997. She holds secondary membership in the Dogwood Prime Time Chapter, Atlanta.

Continuing her involvement in ABWA, Mrs. West served as Vice Chairman for the successful 2000 National Convention of ABWA, held in November, 2000 in Atlanta , GA. There were approximately 2,300 attendees with 31 Sponsoring Chapters and 6 Hostess Chapters. Among her other affiliations are the Junior League of DeKalb; the Board of Directors of the Women's Resource Center, Decatur, and The King-Tisdell Cottage, Savannah.

Her motto for life speaks for it's self: "To whom much is given, much is required"

Mrs. West is married to Freddie Lawrence West (32 years). They are the parents of two children: Lieutenant Cedric Lawrence West (Camille Cunningham-West) and Michelle D. West. They also have one grandson, Caden James Lawrence West.
